Alborosie Announces First African Tour - African Victory Tour 2024/25
10/08/2024 by Press Release
Alborosie is set to start his fist-ever African tour from 9 to 17 November 2024. During this time, he will visit Kenya and Ethiopia to explore their rich cultures, engage with local communities, and to perform at exclusive Reggae Dub Sound System sessions alongside King Shiloh Sound System in Nairobi and Addis Ababa. This trip serves as a precursor to a full live tour scheduled for February and March 2025, when Alborosie will return to Ethiopia and Kenya with his band The Shengen Clan. Confirmed dates include Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) on 22 February, and Nairobi (Kenya) on 1 March, with more dates and countries to be added soon.
Alborosie is renowned for his authentic sound and significant influence on the global reggae scene. Originally from Italy, he moved to Jamaica to immerse himself in Reggae culture. Known for hits such as Herbalist, Kingston Town, and Still Blazing, and collaborations like Blessings with Etana and Strolling with Protoje’, Alborosie is celebrated not only as a top performer but also for his production skills and dedication to Reggae music. He remains a leading figure in the global reggae scene today.
AFRICAN VICTORY TOUR
The tour will be branded as the ‘African Victory Tour’, celebrating Africa’s victory over historical and modern-day oppression and colonization. In Ethiopia, Alborosie will honor the nation’s successful resistance against colonial forces over the centuries, highlighting its status as the only country in Africa that was never colonized, and the significance that has for the world today. In Kenya, Alborosie will delve into the country’s rich cultural and unique identity and engage with a young generation of conscious youth, a generation that is increasingly shaping the country’s future. The tour aims to educate Alborosie’s international fanbase about these fascinating countries and their inspiring histories, which are often left out of Western narratives. Additionally, Alborosie will visit several charity programs we support, bringing attention to impactful development projects that benefit the most vulnerable communities. All proceeds from the shows in November will go to the projects Alborosie will visit.
ORGANIZING PARTNERS
This tour is made possible through the collaboration of several organizations. Leading the initiative is The Long Trail, an international social enterprise specializing in community-based tourism, development projects, and impactful events. The tour will raise funds for local charitable organizations and spotlight pressing social issues, particularly the inclusion of people with disabilities. In Ethiopia, all proceeds will benefit Dires for Development Charitable Association, a local nonprofit fighting poverty and discrimination against people with disabilities. In Kenya, the profits will support the Kwale Deaf Centre, which support deaf people in rural Kwale County and Nairobi's Kibera community. Additionally, the tour is supported by the House of Rastafari, the cultural area within Rototom Sunsplash Festival dedicated to preserving and promoting Rastafari culture and spirituality. Members of the House of Rastafari will be part of the program and their involvement adds spiritual and cultural depth to the tour.
Roots & Culture Travel, a brand of The Long Trail, is aimed at connecting the reggae scene and Rastafarian communities with the tourism sector. It offers community-based travel experiences with local reggae and Rastafari networks. Fans of Alborosie are invited to explore Ethiopia and Kenya’s cultural highlights, connect with local communities, and attend his performances. Tour packages are available at ROOTSANDCULTURE.travel, with event tickets on sale through local outlets. Additional tour dates will be announced on the website and social media channels.
