Smilin Island Food is pleased to present the 24th Annual 9 Mile Music Festival. The event will be held on March 11th at the beautiful Historic Virginia Key Beach Park located at 4020 Virginia Beach Drive, Miami, FL. Doors will open at 1pm, rain or shine.
The festival’s acts include reggae icons Julian Marley, Capleton, Sizzla, Charly Black and more. Further lineup announcements will be made soon.
Expect a day full of music, many different cultures, foods and drinks: from Jamaican jerk chicken and other popular Jamaican dishes to Spanish food, arepas, pizza, Chinese food, fresh salads and vegetarian food.
There will be a holistic village with services such as acupuncture, massages, yoga, nutritionist, and life coaches. Will will also have body painting and a drum circle on the beach. Although this is an adult festival children under 10 enter free as long as they are escorted by a guardian.
Though majorly a reggae festival, 9 Mile Festival embraces all kinds of music, having hosted rock performances such as Hootie and the Blowfish and Carlos Santana; hip hop names such as DMX, Foxy Brown, 2 Chainz, and Nas; electronic music acts such as Major Lazer and Thievery Corporation; and R & B voices like Lauryn Hill, Erica Badu and India Arie, among many others. All of these add diversity to a top class list of reggae performances throughout the years.
The festival was started by Cedella Marley Booker (mother of Bob Marley) and friends in 1993. The mission was to continue Bob's message of peace, love and unity. In continuation with tradition, a donation of 4 canned goods is still required for entry. This practice has been going since the very first edition of the 9 Mile Festival, and all goods are contributed to charity. This year 9 Mile Festival will support Kurlys House & Food for Life. Early donations will be accepted at Food For Life Network’s food bank located on the second floor of Care Resource’s midtown Miami office 3510 Biscayne Boulevard, between December 16th and December 23rd.
