General Roots ADD
General Roots was formed in 2008 by a small group of close friends who all had a passion for reggae music.
The band line up consists of six musicians. The Mckone brothers; James & Ben on drum & bass. Field Marshal Fred on lead vocals alongside the vibes controller, The Minister. On guitar is Joe Price and the keyboards, Sam Ross.
Without any managerial backing, GR have built up a strong and loyal fan base over the last four years, putting on trademark high energy live shows that have proved to get anyone and everyone up on their feet moving and grooving.
From Glastonbury to Germany, General Roots have been showcasing their homegrown approach to Dub, Lover's Rock & Roots reggae all over the world. The band have played pubs, clubs, theatres, arenas & festivals of all shapes and sizes in countries such as France, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Spain, Slovenia and Switzerland.
'The First Attack' EP was independently produced & released in 2013 and went straight to No.2 in the UK iTunes Reggae Album chart for a week, sitting behind the highest selling reggae album of all time - Bob Marley & The Wailers 'Legend'.
Following on from the successful start of things, GR worked alongside legendary UK reggae producer, composer & musician Dennis Bovell (Aswad/Hollie Cook/Joss Stone) to record two singles. Entrusting the help of producer Prince Fatty (Lily Allen/The Skints/A Tribe Called Quest) 'Sufferer' and 'Special' proved to be the best sounding material they had recorded yet, incorporating the vintage sound of analogue effects heard on so many classic Jamaican recordings of the past, whilst remaining original, fresh and catchy.
Through sheer graft the band have only been getting better along the way, earning support slots with artists such as Ziggy Marley, Madness, Gentleman's Dub Club, Hollie Cook, The Skints and Protoje to name a few.
2016 is the year for General Roots to cover even more distance. An 11 track debut album independently produced will come to light, featuring some extra special guest appearances from some of the UK's finest reggae artists such as Hollie Cook, Top Cat & the legendary Horseman. The deep bass driven roots sound to sweet lovers rock, the bouncing dancehall to heavy dub, the debut album is the benchmark General Roots want to set.
