The newest voice of Dancehall music Lanae Gillette, more popularly recognized as ‘Lanae’ or 'BadgalLanae' is one to watch for 2023 and beyond. The vocally versatile and beautiful Jamaican dancehall recording artist, singer & songwriter was born and raised in the beautiful Westend of Jamaica - Montego Bay. Lanae worked her way up to completing her studies and graduated from the University of The West Indies in December 2021.
The talented singjay got her first taste of public success when she placed 1st, winning the title of Miss Universe Jamaica Northwest in 2018. This allowed her to compete in the regional pageant for the Miss Universe Jamaica title. Lanae's love for music was brewing and a year later, Lanae decided to relocate to the city of Kingston in order to make a career for herself in the competitive Dancehall arena, under the tutelage of her manager Carlington Wilmot.
Lanae then went on to release crowd favorites such as ‘Hi School’ and 'Chat too much' (Jan 2020) a ‘refix’ of Govana’s 'Hamants convo'. The Hamants convo refix went viral on social media and immediately had the industry talking. This success got her booked for several shows across the island, one of which saw her performing alongside the ‘Eastside Queen,’ Jada Kingdom at Margaritaville, Montego Bay.
Since her inception Lanae has worked with several notable producers such as Birchill Music, one of the listed producers on Shaggy’s multi-platinum album-Hot Shots, Good Good Productions (Zum), among others. Lanae continued to build her career in music and was able to see the success of her hit single - ‘Whine’ which has now accumulated over 17 million+ views, 'Stay Dung deh' with established dancehall artist Leftside, which now has over 5million+ views and other catchy songs which have accumulated over 27+ million views in total on Youtube. Lanae's talent even caught the eyes of the Worldboss, Vybz Kartel, and they collaborated on their new song "Too Young".
In 2023, Lanae releases her first EP entitled “Dancehall Whine” and is planning to tour Europe in May of this same year.
Lanae's sole focus has been music and she plans to be the first female artist from Montego Bay to take their career worldwide and bring Dancehall as far as her dreams can see.
